Leonardo Cervera, Director of the Office of the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), gave a conference on 16 February entitled "Freedom and Privacy in the Age of AI". During this talk, he explained that the European Union has initiated the legislative process for the approval of a future European legal framework on AI. The main underlying principles are:

  • High protection standards based on the risk level of each activity
  • Respect for people’s privacy and dignity by design
  • Data quality

Additionally, Leonardo Cervera stressed the need for the approval of a European code of ethics that engineers who design the algorithms and technological tools necessary for AI must adhere to. Along with the Director of the EDPS, Jorge Cabet, lawyer and Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications at Rödl & Partner, and Lorenzo Prats, Professor of Civil Law and Director of the Department of Private Law at CUNEF Universidad, also participated in the event. The conference was the opening session of the 2nd edition of the Digital Law & Legal Tech Specialisation Program.
