Consulting, under debate at CUNEF Universidad: profiles, skills and career opportunities

16 March 2026

CUNEF Universidad organised a roundtable discussion on consulting as a professional option to offer students a rigorous, up-to-date and practical outlook of this industry, coupled with a comprehensive review of industry trends, potential career paths and the profiles currently sought-after in the job market.

Experts Elena Zoido, Executive Vice President at Compass Lexecon, Germán Ezquerro, Talent Acquisition Senior Consultant at LLYC, and Beatriz Echagüe, Talent Acquisition Manager at Accenture, shared their experience and their vision of the opportunities offered today by the consulting industry.

During the session, chaired by Andreea Trifu, Deputy Director of the Department of Business Management at CUNEF Universidad, the speakers discussed in depth the scope and diversity of consulting, the strategic role it plays within organisations and the main challenges it faces in an increasingly dynamic and complex business environment.

They also reflected on the impact of artificial intelligence on the sector, the growing interdependence between disciplines and the need to integrate strategic, analytical and technological perspectives to overcome the challenges currently faced by companies. The analysis of junior profiles and the competencies most sough-after by consulting firms was one of the core themes of the conversation.

Transversal skills

In this sense, the experts highlighted the importance of combining solid technical knowledge with transversal skills such as communication, critical thinking or analytical reasoning. They also valued the contribution of diverse profiles, both technical and quantitative, with a background in disciplines such as international relations or humanities, in a context in which organisations demand increasingly multidisciplinary teams with complementary perspectives.

The discussion also allowed students to learn first-hand how selection processes for junior profiles are usually carried out, as well as the characteristics that define a solid candidate and the most frequent mistakes seen by companies during this type of process.

With this type of initiative, CUNEF Universidad reaffirms its commitment to education aligned with professional practice by creating spaces where students and companies can engage, enhancing the academic experience and providing a clearer vision of the professional environment they will join upon graduation.
