“The Generation that Decides”, organised by CUNEF Universidad, brings together a hundred pre-university students

15 April 2026

CUNEF Universidad recently hosted “The Generation that Decides”, an educational initiative promoted by the Department of Admissions as part of its strategy to attract and retain talent, and supported by Professor Alberto Iglesias and members of the Department of Mathematics.

The purpose was to offer a unique experience to top-tier applicants, showcasing CUNEF Universidad’s academic standards and educational approach while building a deeper connection with the institution. The session combined academic insights and a team-based strategic simulation.

The event focused on key concepts like excellence (defined as the ability to learn with rigour and make sound decisions in complex settings), critical reasoning, analysis, and dedication. Students tackled real-life challenges, discovering for themselves how knowledge is the basis for informed judgment.

Philosopher Javier Gomá, director of the Juan March Foundation and Chair of Exemplarity at CUNEF Universidad, opened the event with a lecture on exemplarity, critical reasoning, artificial intelligence and the role of each generation in the face of today’s challenges.

“The Generation that Decides”: judgment, perseverance and intellectual ambition

During the session, professors emphasised the importance of carrying out in-depth analyses, managing complex processes and making decisions in high-stakes environments. The initiative seeks to foster more than academic success, aiming to strengthen participants’ commitment, perseverance, independent judgment and intellectual ambition.

In mixed teams of students and applicants, participants engaged in a strategic simulation, taking on different roles and deciding whether to cooperate or compete in a complex ecosystem where every action had a ripple effect. The scenario focused on the future of artificial intelligence and international regulation, connecting academic training, strategic thinking and data analysis. By mixing prospective and current students in each team, the experience encouraged them to interact.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony for the two top teams and a cocktail reception, designed to foster the ties between applicants and students in a shared learning environment.
