His Majesty the King presides over an institutional event to commemorate CUNEF’s 50th anniversary
30 April 2024
His Majesty King Felipe VI presided over the institutional event organised by CUNEF Universidad to commemorate its 50 years of history. During the event, held in the Auditorium of the Almansa Campus, CUNEF Universidad was enthusiastically supported by institutions, entities, companies, universities and other international collaborators.
Participants stressed the importance of education, the most powerful instrument to overcome the challenges faced by Spain as a country and as a society, and of universities, drivers of change as sources of knowledge, innovation and critical thinking. They also went over CUNEF’s transformation process, from its creation in 1973 to its recognition as a university in 2019.
The three inspiring principles that have guided CUNEF throughout its history are the specialisation of its academic offering, the excellence of its students, professors and researchers, and its international vision. CUNEF Universidad intends to face the next 50 years guided by values like academic rigour, to be a benchmark in teaching and research; commitment, to drive research and innovation; plurality, to integrate different points of view and promote transversality and collaboration in decision-making; and equity, to ensure equal opportunities thanks to a scholarship and financial aid system that enables the institution to shape professionals capable of transferring these values to their environment.
As part of its evolution, and to respond to the new demands of the job market, CUNEF Universidad has expanded its academic offering—traditionally specialising in Business Administration, Finance and Law—to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills, as well as critical thinking and Humanities, with degrees in Engineering, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
During the event, the Chairman of CUNEF, Antonio Rodríguez-Pina, and the Chair of Exemplarity, the philosopher Javier Gomá, discussed the importance of an education based on dignity and exemplarity, highlighting the contribution of Humanities to decision-making, especially in a digitalised society where the use of technology is central. In addition, Alejandra Kindelán, Chair of the AEB Foundation, reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to CUNEF throughout its history, from the start of its academic activities to its evolution as a university.
After the event, His Majesty the King toured the new facilities of the Almansa Campus, a space designed by architect Kevin Roche, with 18,000 square meters and four buildings equipped with the latest learning technologies and designed to comply with all sustainability requirements. His Majesty visited several classes (on Geopolitical Strategy, Corporate Finance and Constitutional Law) and an Engineering and Artificial Intelligence laboratory, and interacted with students and faculty.
