CUNEF Universidad holds a roundtable discussion on Technology and Business Transformation

6 March 2024

Last 5 March, CUNEF Universidad held a roundtable discussion on Technology and Business Transformation. During the discussion, speakers highlighted that companies need to focus on their digital strategy, with a fully transversal approach that reaches all areas of the organisation. They also emphasised several key ideas:

  • Digital transformation only makes sense if it helps companies grow, become more efficient, or make more money.
  • The main obstacles in this process are talent shortage, the inability to understand technology as a business goal and short-term vision.
  • The greatest challenge is using technology to reimagine and change the business model, and not thinking in terms of isolated departments.
  • The organisations that manage to truly transform will be those that learn to use data in a new way and understand the full scope of AI: machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI.
  • It is imperative to establish an ethical framework for Artificial Intelligence, ensuring that companies apply their code of ethics to the use of AI.
  • Future professionals must work on soft skills such as teamwork or empathy, and enhance their adaptability, frustration management and leadership skills.

André Portela, Professor of Quantitative Methods, chaired the discussion. The speakers were Cristina Álvarez, Director of Technology and Operations at Banco Santander, Ricardo Martín Manjón, Global Head of Data at BBVA, Elena Betés, CEO of dide.org and Founder of Rastreator, and Javier Echániz, Partner in charge
