Student's profile
This summer programme positions CUNEF Universidad at the forefront of legal innovation. Driven by the partnership with the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE, for its acronym in Spanish), the course proposes a qualitative breakthrough in the relationship between institutions and citizens.
The core premise of the programme is a key technical and democratic distinction: while the right to understand ensures linguistic access to information, the right to comprehend represents a subsequent, more advanced stage, where citizens go beyond merely decoding a text, and actually grasp the underlying logic, motivation and consequences of the decisions that affect them.
Combining broad outreach with rigorous technical standards, the programme is specifically designed for international students at the intersection of law, communication, political science and technology who are eager to master clear communication, legal design and professional public speaking while enjoying a comprehensive cultural immersion in Madrid.
Learning Outcomes
- To establish plain language as a standard for preventive legal certainty, recognising clarity not as a formality but as a fundamental requirement for material validity.
- To minimise legal exposure in contracts and technical documents by promoting clear drafting that ensures their effectiveness and validity in judicial settings.
- To transform complex communication into a standard of trust, leveraging the academic rigour and linguistic excellence of the CUNEF–RAE alliance.
- To align clarity with compliance and ESG standards, establishing a direct link between high-quality communication, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
- To optimise client relations by reducing litigation, complaints and operational costs arising from interpretation errors.
This programme, designed for individuals who seek to lead legal innovation in the digital age, explores the legal complexities of artificial intelligence, equipping participants to navigate the challenges that these technologies bring to the legal landscape.

A comprehensive, modern approach that meets the demands of the market
The summer programme “From the Right to Understand to the Right to Comprehend” follows a hybrid model that blends academic rigour with immediate hands-on application through two complementary formats:
- Master Sessions: Expert-led theoretical lectures covering the core legal, linguistic, and legal design fundamentals.
- Practical Workshops: Writing labs where students take an active role, applying theory to rewrite and simplify real-world documents.
By integrating master sessions with practical workshops, the programme ensures that theoretical knowledge is transformed into real technical expertise, equipping students with actionable tools for their professional practice.
