CUNEF Universidad hosts the Mathematics League organised by ANEM
14 April 2026
CUNEF Universidad has been selected by ANEM (Spanish Association of Mathematics Students) to host the final of the Mathematics League, an academic event that brings together college students to put their reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the test.
On 10 and 11 April, more than 40 students will compete in four teams representing different Spanish universities at CUNEF Universidad. Each team will participate in two “matches” that will determine the winners. The programme also features a range of activities designed to awaken participants’ interest in different areas of mathematics and complement their education.
The opening ceremony, held on 9 April, was attended by Jorge González Ortega, Vice-Dean for Students at the UCM’s Mathematics Department, Laureano González Vega, Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at CUNEF Universidad, and Juan Carlos Navarro, Chair of the Organising Committee and UCM Professor.
“Hosting the final of the Mathematics League provides CUNEF Universidad the chance to consolidate its position as a place where talent is challenged, shared, and nurtured. We want to promote STEM careers and strengthen the connection between academic rigour and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world challenges. In this regard, CUNEF Universidad’s School of Engineering plays a key role in equipping professionals with solid scientific and technological skills,” said Laureano González Vega, Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
This student-led initiative strengthens our commitment to academic excellence and promotes participatory spaces that foster the development of key skills. “Our main goals are to encourage participation in activities organised by ANEM, develop problem-solving skills, promote logical and structured thinking, and encourage healthy academic competition and collaboration among students,” said ANEM Chair Javier Polo Noche.
Students from CUNEF Universidad’s School of Engineering, like José María de Troya León and Elena Ortega Martínez (5th and 4th year, respectively, of the Double Bachelor in Economics and Mathematical Engineering), have collaborated with ANEM in the local organisation of this edition.
The winners
The winning team of the 3rd edition of the Mathematics League was DerUVada, with students Diego de la Fuente (team representative), Esteban Perdices, Alejandro Marchena, Juan de Frutos, Nicolás Uzquiza, Sergio Álvarez and Daniel Gutiérrez, all of whom have extensive experience in such mathematical competitions.
CUNEF Universidad commends the effort and dedication of this year’s participants, while emphasising how such initiatives serve to nurture mathematical talent, promote logical and structured reasoning and strengthen the ties between universities.
