Appointed Full Professor of Applied Mathematics by Universidad de Alcalá in 2002, Professor Sendra has been recognised for six sexenios (six-year research periods), supervised six PhD theses, published more than 120 research papers and a research book in Springer-Verlag, and edited several special issues in scientific journals. He has participated in various scientific committees, and joined the editorial board of the Journal of Symbolic Computation, published by Elsevier, in 2002. He has been lead researcher in 11 funded research projects.

He has taught various mathematics and symbolic computation courses in engineering (telecommunications, industrial) and science (chemistry, biology) degrees, and published a manual on symbolic computation.

He was the Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Universidad de Alcalá and the spokesperson of the Evaluation Committee for Experimental Sciences in the ANECA Faculty Evaluation Program.
