CUNEF Universidad and Oracle consolidate their alliance: State-of-the-art AI and Cloud training at the School of Engineering

CUNEF Universidad’s School of Engineering recently hosted “Oracle and CUNEF in the age of AI”, a high-level event that reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to elite technological training. More than 140 attendees, including students and faculty, filled the hall to capacity to discuss the future of data, cloud infrastructures and the talent required for the age of Artificial Intelligence.

The round table, chaired by Carlos-Miguel Lorenzo, Professor of the Department of Quantitative Methods, featured leading Oracle engineers Pedro Llamas Flores (VP Account Cloud Engineers for Southern Europe) and Belén Hernández Riesgo (Principal Sales Consultant), as well as Assela Villar (Director of Talent Acquisition at Oracle).

Tech leadership: From algorithms to F1 execution

As part of his message to future engineers, Pedro Llamas insisted that “the AI race won’t be won by the best algorithm, but rather by those who can execute it better, faster and at scale”. He also used the analogy of Red Bull Racing in Formula 1 and SailGP to explain that, in business, “the model is the driver, but the infrastructure is the car, and without a car, you can’t compete”. For her part, Belén Hernández went over several examples of advanced innovation where Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is used to manage massive data efficiently and securely, which is critical to success in high-stakes competitive and business environments. 

Another cornerstone of the event was the focus on talent. Assela Villar provided an in-depth description of the “ideal engineer”, highlighting that, beyond coding skills, today’s market demands deep insights on how data impacts business, as well as well-honed ‘Power Skills’.
