New edition of CUNEF LexChallenge: integrating knowledge and strategy

20 March 2026

CUNEF Universidad held a new edition of CUNEF LexChallenge, an academic competition organised by the Department of Law to bring students closer to legal practice by challenging them to solve complex legal issues.

LexChallenge is an internal competition where students combine legal analysis and strategic decision making, recreating real-life professional situations. It also serves as a training ground for students who are especially motivated to compete in international moot courts on behalf of CUNEF Universidad later in their studies.

In this edition, the case proposed revolved around an international commercial conflict, specifically contract execution and legal and strategic dispute resolution. The case incorporated particularly relevant and complex elements, including liability for failing NFC tags used as smart sensors on food products, external financing through investment funds, third-party litigation funding, or issues involving contract breaches, damages and arbitration.

Integrating knowledge and strategy

LexChallenge uses a different approach every year to encourage students to combine their legal knowledge with a strategic vision to tackle scenarios such as restructuring processes, business negotiations, customer relations or other common contexts in professional practice.

CUNEF Universidad professors and lawyers from top-tier firms like Uría Menéndez, Pérez-Llorca and Baker McKenzie participated in the elimination rounds.

In the final round, the teams defended their arguments before a panel made up of prestigious legal experts: Javier García de Enterría, Professor of Commercial Law at CUNEF Universidad, Sixtine du Crest, Magistrate of the Court of Appeal of Versailles and university professor, and Eduardo Tahoces, State Attorney and university professor.

The winners of this edition of CUNEF LexChallenge were Carlos Salazar Bermúdez, Carlos Sosa Segovia, Francisco Javier Gracia García and Javier Martínez Montilla, while second place was awarded to Jorge González Roldán, María Arteaga Fernández, Javier Cepeda Mayans and Guillermo Martínez Carreño.

All the participants were second- and third-year Law and Law and Business Administration students. Their outstanding preparation, analytical skills and potential as future legal professionals served as a testament to CUNEF Universidad’s academic excellence.
