CUNEF Universidad inaugurates its new Almansa Campus in Madrid, a benchmark for technology, sustainability and accessibility

19 March 2026

CUNEF Universidad held an institutional ceremony to mark the official opening of its new Almansa Campus, designed by renowned architect Kevin Roche for MERLIN Properties. This space, which totals circa 17,841 m², consists of four unique buildings, with lecture halls equipped to the highest technology and sustainability standards. Located in the heart of the university district of Madrid, it has excellent public transport connections. The event, which further strengthened the institution’s leadership, featured a discussion on “Education and talent in an AI-driven society” as its central theme.

Ana I. Fernández, Rector of CUNEF Universidad, opened the ceremony with a welcome speech in which she highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, with a rigorous and innovative educational model aimed at ensuring high employability rates while further solidifying CUNEF Universidad’s reputation for the highest standards in research. After her speech, two distinguished scholars—Javier Gomá, philosopher, Chair of Exemplarity at CUNEF Universidad and Director of the Juan March Foundation, and Tano Santos, Director of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing at Columbia Business School, where he serves as Robert Heilbrunn Professor of Asset Management and Finance, focusing on teaching and research—discussed how AI is going to change education and re-define talent.

The discussion focused on how AI is transforming education and talent development, as well as on the essential skills required in future graduates. Javier Gomá stated that “artificial intelligence is not called to replace the human element, it is called to preserve it. It will replace secondary tasks, not creativity or culture,” while Tano Santos stressed that “artificial intelligence is set to raise the bar in education, with students expecting educators to deliver more complex concepts and greater added value.”

This discussion topic was chosen for such an important to address the issues that are defining the industry’s agenda, attesting to CUNEF Universidad’s sensitivity to such issues, as well as to its adaptability and readiness to expand its academic offering with programmes designed to meet new market demands. The university offers degrees in Computer Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence or Mathematical Engineering, and innovative double degrees including Business Administration and Data Science or Business Administration and Computer Engineering. In total, the institution’s offering includes 14 undergraduate and 9 graduate degrees that combine its traditional fields of expertise with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.

Rector Ana I. Fernández highlighted this vision, stating that “this new campus represents more than just expanded infrastructure; it is a testament to our commitment to anticipating future needs and shaping the professionals who will lead tomorrow, combining analytical rigor with a profound understanding of both the technological landscape and the human dimension.”

This commitment to the future is already bearing fruit. The university project is experiencing significant growth, with 4,900 students of different nationalities enrolled in academic year 2025–2026, and a 295-strong faculty, where 40% have earned their PhD abroad and 30% are international professors. Research is another key element: the institution invested 27% of its turnover in 2025 in research programmes. This expansion is materialised in its two campuses: Pirineos, which houses the School of Engineering, and the new Almansa Campus, with the School of Business, Economics and Law and the Graduate and International Business School.

The official inauguration of the Almansa Campus represents, therefore, not only the institution’s physical expansion, but also the consolidation of an educational model committed to excellence, which seeks to equip new generations of professionals with the transversal skills demanded by today's economy.
