CUNEF Universidad ranks 3rd in the AdaByron competition

11 April 2026

The CUNEF Universidad's School of Engineering took part in the latest edition of AdaByron, the annual university competitive programming contest held across universities in Madrid, where the top teams qualify for the national competition of the same name.

This year, the contest took place at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), with 47 participating teams and three categories defined as follows:

  • A: Teams whose highest enrolled year is the first year of their degree.
  • B: Teams whose highest enrolled year is the second year of their degree.
  • C: All other teams.

At CUNEF Universidad, the faculty members responsible for organizing the event at the university, attracting and recruiting students, and training and preparing them are Francisco Criado Gallart, María Soledad Espinosa Ruiz, and Javier Paris Uhryn. In addition, Professor Francisco Criado Gallart plays a key role in the competition as Head Judge.

Participating teams from CUNEF Universidad

In this edition, CUNEF Universidad entered three student teams, made up of students from different degree programs, ranging from first to fourth year.

These are the teams that took part in the competition:

  • [Category C] Hombres D.Paco Gear 2: Jacobo Bascón, Mario Fernández, Jesús Pacheco
  • [Category B] Time Limit Overexceeded: Jaime González, Gonzalo Martín, Luis Romagosa
  • [Category B] Paris saint code: Juan Bosco, Carmen Cuerva, Daniela González

It is worth noting that the students from the team Paris saint code were participating in AdaByron for the first time, as was Luis Romagosa from the team Time Limit Overexceeded.

Competition results

From CUNEF Universidad, we would like to congratulate the team Hombres D.Paco Gear 2, which ranked third overall and second in its category.

The team members explain that “the programming club was founded three years ago, when we prepared for a championship in Milan where we finished last, but that’s our story of improvement… we’ve gone from the very bottom to reaching the top 3”.

According to Jesús Pacheco, a member of the team and a Mathematical Engineering student, “the keys to success have been twofold: first, all the studying and preparation we have done, and second, developing the right mindset for this type of competition. It’s not like playing a football match against another team, but more like a triathlon where we have to complete a series of challenges, and all teams must overcome them”.

Looking ahead, the students will continue training alongside CUNEF Universidad faculty to take part in the national AdaByron competition, which will be held next July in Madrid. They admit that “although it will be much more challenging, we have high expectations”.

The results of all teams can be consulted here.
