The School of Engineering addresses the importance of human-centred artificial intelligence
26 November 2025
On Wednesday, 26 November, the School of Engineering hosted “Human-centred Artificial Intelligence”, a complementary activity for undergraduate students held in Pirineos Campus. The session featured a presentation by José Raúl Romero, Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Universidad de Cordoba.
During the activity, Professor Romero explained that human-centred artificial intelligence (HCAI) is about developing technology that works well for people, not just technology that works. In this sense, he stated that, in the short to medium term, AI needs to go beyond providing good results and learn how to explain its decision-making processes.
As Professor Romero pointed out, AI models are still fragile because they do not explore context, but simply create texts based on probability. Therefore, human supervision is essential to define the needs of AI, eliminate biases and verify that the results are correct. He stressed that AI learns from data, but this will never be enough to accurately represent the real world.
Finally, the Director of the School of Engineering, Victoria López, talked about the future of this type of technology and its impact on the job market. In this sense, she pointed out that it is essential for students to specialise and, in addition, learn how to use AI. If they do, she insisted, instead of seeing AI as a threat, they will come to think of it as a tool to improve their productivity.
