CUNEF University Hosts the Mathematics League Organized by ANEM

10 April 2026

CUNEF Universidad has been selected by the National Association of Mathematics Students (ANEM) to host the final of the Mathematics League, an academic event that brings together college students and tests their reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

On April 10 and 11, more than 40 students from four teams representing different Spanish universities will compete at CUNEF Universidad in two “matches” per team, the results of which will determine the League’s winners. The program also features various activities designed to foster interest in different areas of mathematics and to complement the participants’ education.

The opening ceremony, held on April 9, was attended by the Vice Dean of Mathematics Students at UCM, Jorge González Ortega; the Vice Rector for Academic Planning and Quality at CUNEF Universidad, Laureano González Vega; and the President of the Organizing Committee, Juan Carlos Navarro (UCM).

“Hosting the final of the Mathematics League is an opportunity to continue positioning CUNEF Universidad as a place where talent is challenged, shared, and nurtured. We want to promote STEM careers and strengthen the connection between academic rigor and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world challenges. In this regard, the Higher Polytechnic School at CUNEF Universidad plays a key role in training professionals with a solid scientific and technological foundation,” said Laureano González Vega, Vice Rector for Academic Planning and Quality.

The initiative, driven by students, reinforces a commitment to academic excellence and promotes participatory spaces for the development of key skills. “Our main objectives are to encourage participation in activities organized by ANEM, develop problem-solving skills, and promote logical and structured thinking, as well as foster healthy academic competition and encourage collaboration among students,” said ANEM President Javier Polo Noche.

The local organization of this edition involves students from the Higher Polytechnic School of CUNEF Universidad, including José María de Troya León (5th year of the Double Degree in Economics and Mathematical Engineering) and Elena Ortega Martínez (4th year of the same program), in coordination with ANEM.
