The Rector of CUNEF Universidad, present at the award ceremony of the 2022 Princess of Asturias Awards

The solemn award ceremony of the 2022 Princess of Asturias Awards, held on 28 October at Campoamor Theatre, in Oviedo, was attended by the Rector of CUNEF Universidad, Ana Isabel Fernández, in her role as newly elected president of the Princess of Asturias Foundation. During his closing speech, His Majesty the King highlighted Ana Isabel Fernández's “firm commitment” to the goals and objectives of the Foundation and wished her "every success" in her new role.

The Princess of Asturias Awards recognise the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian contributions of individuals, institutions, groups or organisations in the international arena. After reading the names of the award winners, His Majesty the King and Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias presented the awards which, in this edition, went to:

  • Carmen Linares and María Pagés, Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts
  • Adam Michnik, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities
  • Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences
  • Olympic Refuge Foundation and IOC Refugee Olympic Team, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports
  • Juan Mayorga, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature
  • Ellen MacArthur, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation
  • Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Demis Hassabis, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research
  • Shigeru Ban, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord
